Cumbrian Support for Top Innovation Project

16 December 2022

A robot project supported by Cumbria-based FIS360 is listed in Time Magazine’s top 200 innovations of 2022.

FIS360 supports the commercialisation of technology and the delivery of innovative projects. And following a three-year collaboration between the Dounreay nuclear site in Scotland, a university consortium headed by the University of Manchester and FIS360, a robot known as Lyra has been recognised by Time Magazine as one of 200 innovations changing how we live.

Lyra inspects ventilation ducts and provides radiological and visual mapping information from areas impossible for humans to access due to duct sizes and radiological risks. FIS360 helped secure full deployment of the Lyra robot at Dounreay – the first R & D robotics technology deployment at the nuclear site.

“The trials at Dounreay have been incredibly helpful. The Lyra deployment has demonstrated that robots can be used to solve real nuclear challenges.”

Professor Barry Lennox, University Consortium Lead, University of Manchester

“It’s extremely gratifying that our organisation has helped broker such remarkable robotic development and been able to support a project to achieve its full potential. We’re very excited to continue working with the team to ensure that the full commercial potential of this ground-breaking technology is realised.”

Frank Allison, CEO, FIS360 Ltd
