AI Governance Framework: Guidance Report for Sellafield Ltd

Client

Sellafield Ltd

Primary Sector

Nuclear

Innovation Training & Culture

The Challenge

Sellafield Ltd recognised the rapid rise of AI and its transformative potential but needed to balance innovation with stringent regulatory requirements. To avoid security risks from early adoption – or missed opportunities through caution – they sought external benchmarking across regulated industries to validate their approach and build a robust, future-ready AI governance framework.

The Solution

We produced a comprehensive AI Governance Framework guidance report for Sellafield Ltd, reviewing governance approaches, regulatory requirements, and risk-management practices across multiple highly regulated sectors. We analysed leading standards, assessed compliance needs, and distilled best practices into clear, actionable recommendations. The final report, delivered within 2 months, provides a consolidated reference to inform Sellafield’s AI strategy and roadmap.

The Impact

The guidance report equips Sellafield with a validated, externally informed foundation for responsible AI adoption. It strengthens governance, reducing the risk of compliance breaches, security incidents, and associated financial or reputational harm. By clarifying oversight processes, it supports safer innovation, enhances transparency and accountability, and enables staff to adopt AI confidently while protecting long-term organisational resilience.

A tailored online form enabled consistent data capture, while stakeholder evaluation routed challenges to the most effective solution pathways. The platform replaced outdated tools with a collaborative, structured, and efficient workflow.

The Impact
